NATROSOL 250 HHR 25/1 (100,000 Viscosity)
Natrosol 250 HHR 25/1 is a non-ionic, water-soluble hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC) polymer specifically formulated for personal care and cosmetic applications. This product is a white, free-flowing granular powder obtained from the reaction of cellulose with ethylene oxide. The 'HHR' code indicates that the product has a very high molecular weight and undergoes a retarded hydration process to prevent lumping when it comes into contact with water.
Key Features and Benefits
- Superior Thickening: Provides high viscosity even at low concentrations.
- Pseudoplastic Flow (Shear-Thinning): Allows products to be easily dispensed from packaging while enabling easy spreading during application (on hair or skin).
- Crystal Clarity: Forms clear solutions when dissolved in cold or hot water.
- Easy Dispersion: Thanks to the 'R' treatment, it does not thicken immediately when added to water, which facilitates the preparation of a homogeneous mixture without lumps.
- Broad Compatibility: Soluble in hydro-alcoholic systems containing up to 60% ethanol and in glycerol.
Application Areas
Natrosol 250 HHR 25/1 is widely used as a stabilizer and rheology modifier in the following personal care products:
- Hair conditioners and shampoos
- Liquid soaps and shower gels
- Shaving gels and foams
- Toothpastes (Due to high salt tolerance)
- Makeup products and mascaras
- Lubricant gels

Usage and Dissolution Techniques
Since Natrosol 250 HHR 25/1 is an R-treated (retarded hydration) grade, it should be added to agitated water with a pH of 7.0 or lower to prepare a lump-free solution. Once the particles are fully dispersed, the pH of the medium should be raised to 8.5 or above to initiate the thickening process (hydration). Cold and acidic water extends the hydration time, facilitating processing.
